Atorvastatin Tablets
An HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) used to lower elevated cholesterol and reduce cardiovascular risk.
Indications
Adjunct to diet to treat elevated total and LDL cholesterol and to reduce cardiovascular event risk.
Dosage & administration
Starting dose 10-20 mg once daily, adjusted to lipid targets; taken any time of day with or without food.
Mechanism of action
Competitively inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, reducing hepatic cholesterol synthesis and raising LDL clearance.
Important safety information
- Contraindicated in active liver disease, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Report unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness.
- Periodic liver function monitoring may be advised.
